Internship Title
The Cancer Support Community Indiana is a nonprofit organization that provides free wellness, educational, and social support programs for individuals affected by cancer and their loved ones. The organization focuses on helping patients and families cope with the emotional, social, and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
As a Programs Intern, I assist with planning, organizing, and delivering these programs at the main campus. My role includes supporting staff with event preparation, program coordination, and participant engagement to help ensure a welcoming and supportive environment.
Primary Responsibilities and Projects
During my internship, I support a variety of wellness, educational, and social programs offered through Cancer Support Community Indiana.
-
My responsibilities include assisting with program planning and setup, preparing materials for events, and helping with technology needs such as Zoom and the “OWL” system during virtual and in-person programs. I also assist with large annual events such as seasonal celebrations and community engagement activities.
-
I help with data entry, attendance tracking, and collecting participant feedback to support program evaluation and improvement. I also contribute to maintaining a positive and organized environment for participants and staff.
-
In addition, I attend regular check-ins with the Program Coordinator and support ongoing outreach efforts to help increase awareness and participation in programs.

This here is what the attendance sheets would look like when entering our participants.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes
-
Through this internship, I am developing both technical and professional skills in nonprofit program coordination.
-
My technical learning objectives include gaining experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Canva for flyer creation, Salesforce for attendance tracking, and Constant Contact for program communication emails. I am also learning how to operate Zoom and troubleshoot basic technology issues during programs.
-
Program-related goals include assisting with the planning, organization, and delivery of wellness, educational, and social programs, as well as managing attendance, collecting feedback, and supporting event logistics.
-
I also learned about CSC’s mission and how nonprofit organizations design participant-centered programs that support individuals affected by cancer. This includes understanding confidentiality, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and how feedback is used to improve services.
-
Overall, I am building confidence in communication, teamwork, time management, and adaptability in a mission-driven healthcare environment.

This is a poster that I created for a social program that was held at Cancer Support Community.
Caregivers Reset
My Programs Poster
This artifact is a flyer I created for the Caregiver Reset program I helped develop at Cancer Support Community Indiana. The flyer was used to promote a wellness-focused program for caregivers of individuals affected by cancer. The goal was to clearly share program details and encourage participation by highlighting a space for caregivers to rest, connect, and focus on their own well-being. I created this using Canva and focused on making the information clear, simple, and easy to read. This artifact reflects my involvement in program development and supporting outreach efforts during my internship.
