Internship Reflection

End of Semester/Internship Reflection

Reflecting on my internship at Cancer Support Community Indiana, I can see how much I have grown in both professional skills and confidence. Going into this experience, I expected to learn more about nonprofit program work, but I ended up gaining a much deeper understanding of how much coordination, communication, and organization goes into running supportive services for individuals affected by cancer.

One of the biggest things I learned was how programs are planned and delivered from start to finish. I was involved in setup, attendance tracking, and participant feedback, which helped me understand how each small task connects to the overall success of a program. I also gained hands-on experience with tools like Microsoft Office, Canva, and Zoom, which improved my technical skills and ability to support program operations.

This internship also helped me grow personally. I learned how to communicate more effectively with staff and participants, stay organized in a fast-paced environment, and adapt when plans changed. Being part of a mission-driven organization made the experience more meaningful because I saw how important these programs are for caregivers and individuals going through cancer.

Overall, this experience confirmed my interest in working in healthcare and program coordination. It showed me how I can contribute to improving patient and community support systems through organization, communication, and program development.
